Community Education Series
Are you interested in having us speak to your organization?
When your service organization, club, or church wants to better understand aging, home care, options for care, or to dispel the myths of aging, Samaritan at Home Care would love to assist you in answering your questions, and we are available for your next event with an informative PowerPoint presentation and handouts on your chosen topic.
The following is a list of possible topics to choose from:
“The Talk ”: As our parents age, it is our turn to have a difficult talk with them about the realities of the future. This very important discussion addresses how to approach adult parents and present them with options for handling their future health care, lifestyle and financial decisions. The key is determining their wishes before a time of crisis occurs.
“Navigating the Medicare Maze!”: The current health care system is both confusing and ever-changing. This discussion will define and differentiate between insurance, Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, Medicaid, and Long Term Care insurance; including what they do and do not cover. In so doing, it will assist in eliminating confusion so better planning can be made for the future and the future of loved ones.
“Long Term Care Living Options: The Right Choice for You”: Understanding the different living options available for seniors before the time comes to make a move is of utmost importance. We will present the requirements and the pros/cons of each long term care option so that a more informed, satisfying decision can be made.
“There’s No Place Like Home”: Home provides a sense of security with the familiar, and allows us to maintain some independence. When we can no longer take care of ourselves in our homes, we lose this sense of independence. This discussion focuses on the many ways homes can be modified allowing the senior to live in their home as long as possible. In addition, having the right insurance policy can provide the means for you to have care in your home for as long as you need it.
Alzheimer’s Awareness: As we age, our brains age. We may experience slowed thinking or forgetfulness over time. Serious memory loss, confusion, and other major changes in the way our minds work, however, are not a normal part of aging. This discussion will spotlight the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease: what to expect and different ways to cope with the disease’s effects.
Fall Prevention: Falls occur frequently as we age and can lead to devastating medical expenses. They can be debilitating and frightening as they take away a senior’s sense of independence. While prevalent, many common falls can be avoided. This is an overview of the many ways simple adjustments to homes and lifestyles can reduce the risk of falling.
In addition, Samaritan at Home Care has partnered with other local professionals to develop a variety of other community education programs, including: Estate Planning, Financial Planning, or Preventing Senior Scams.
