The WLCFS Board of Directors is made up of 14 very accomplished men from within the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) who volunteer their time to oversee all aspects of Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Service, Inc. (Luther Haven Retirement Community is overseen by a separate Wisconsin Lutheran Retirement Community, Inc., board.)


 

Greg Alsch

Mr. Alsch has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 1998.  In addition to serving WLCFS, Mr. Alsch is also a member of the Nominating Committee at his church.  He and his wife, Patti, have four children. They are members of Bethlehem, Menomonee Falls, WI,

  Daniel R. Barnas

Mr. Barnas has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 2006.  He is also the President and Owner of Oil Express National, Inc., in Hinsdale, IL.  His past endeavors have also included owning his own law firm.  In addition to serving WLCFS, Mr. Barnas also serves on the Mission Advancement Board for Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI.  He and his wife, Deirdre, have three children.  They are members of Good Shepherd, Downers Grove, IL.
 

James A. Brandt

Mr. Brandt has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 2007.  He is also the Administrator for WELS Commission on Parish Schools, in Milwaukee, WI. He is a former WELS teacher and principal, having served in Wisconsin, California, and Illinois.  In addition to his work with WLCFS, Mr. Brandt also serves on the WELS Board for Parish Services and the WELS Board for Ministerial Education.  He and his wife, Kathy, have three boys.  They are members of Pilgrim, Menomonee Falls, WI.

  Allen H. Heckendorf, LUTCF

Mr. Heckendorf has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 1986.  He is also a Financial Advisor and Registered Representative with Principal Financial Group in Milwaukee, WI.  Prior to being with Principal, Mr. Heckendorf was a teacher and a district representative with Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent).  In addition to his service to WLCFS, Mr. Heckendorf also serves on boards within his church and with Wisconsin Lutheran Institutional Ministries.  He and his wife, Bee, have three grown children.  They are members of Calvary, Thiensville, WI.
  Rev. James R. Kleist

Pastor Kleist has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 1986.  He also serves as Superintendent of Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WISCO).  Prior to serving at WISCO, Pastor Kleist was called to St. Paul's, Cudahy, WI and St. Stephen's, Beaver Dam, WI.  He and his wife, Jody, are the parents of five children and have four grandchildren.  They are members of St. Marcus, Milwaukee, WI.
  Timothy J. (Tim) Kriewall, Ph.D.

Dr. Kriewall has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 2005.  He also serves as President of Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC). Prior to serving at WLC, Dr. Kriewall was the Vice President of Research and Development at Medtronic.  He and his wife, Sally, have four adult children and 11 grandchildren.  They are members of St. Paul, Muskego, WI.
 
David J. Nommensen

Mr. Nommensen has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 1990 and was elected Chairman in 1997.  He also is a senior partner in the law firm of Seymour, Kremer, Nommensen, Morrissy, & Koch, L.L.P., specializing in estate planning, probate, and elder law in Elkhorn, WI.  In addition to serving WLCFS, Mr. Nommensen is also a member of a number of professional organizations and director of Camp Bird, a Lutheran summer camp for grade school children.  He and his wife, Bonnie, are the parents of four children and have three grandchildren.  They are members of St. Peter, Helenville, WI.
  Rev. Donald W. Patterson 

Pastor Patterson has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 2006.  He also serves as pastor of Holy Word, Austin, TX.  In addition to his service at WLCFS, Pastor Patterson is also the First Vice President for the South Central District of WELS and serves on the Spiritual Growth Project Team.  He and his wife, Mary, are the parents of four boys.
  Carlyle L. Schmidt

Mr. Schmidt has the distinction of having served the WLCFS Board of Directors at two different times.  His first term of service was from 1973 through 1979.  Mr. Schmidt rejoined the Board of Directors in 1997.  He is retired after years of owning Carlyle L. Schmidt Interior Design and Carlyle's Fine Home Furnishings in Appleton, WI.  He and his wife, Phyllis, have three grown children.  They are members of Peace, Wautoma, WI. 
  Rev. Philip L. Schupmann 

Pastor Schupmann has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 2001.  He also serves as pastor of Resurrection, Aurora, IL.  In addition to serving WLCFS, Pastor Schupmann is also the Chairman of the WELS Committee on Relief, the Circuit Pastor of the Central Circuit of the Chicago Conference, and the Pastor Chairman of the Lutheran Heritage Hour.  He and his wife, Sara, have five grown children.
  Rev. Jeffrey M. Seelow 

Pastor Seelow has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 1996.  He also serves as pastor of Redeemer, Rice Lake, WI.  Prior to serving in Rice Lake, Pastor Seelow served congregations in Ohio and Wisconsin.  In addition to serving WLCFS, he is also the Circuit Pastor of the Chippewa River Valley Conference of the Western Wisconsin District.  He and his wife, Peggy, have three grown children.
  Don L. Weltzien, CFP

Mr. Weltzien has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 1991.  He also is the Senior Vice President—Financial Consultant for RBC Dain Rauscher in Brookfield, WI.  In addition to serving WLCFS, Mr. Weltzien is also president of his congregation.  He and his wife, Kris, are members of St. Matthew, Oconomowoc, WI.
  Rev. Paul O. Wendland 

President Wendland has served on the WLCFS Board of Directors since 2006.  He also serves as President of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (WLS) in Mequon, WI.  Prior to serving as President, Pastor Wendland was an instructor at WLS, Martin Luther College, and Northwestern College.  He also served congregations in Utah and Michigan, and was a missionary to Mwembezhi, Zambia.  He and his wife, Margaret, have three children.  They are members of Garden Homes, Milwaukee, WI.
