All of the counselors employed by WLCFS have received their master's degree or doctorate and have completed at least 3,000 hours of supervised direct client care.  In many cases, our counselors have gotten additional certifications toward specialties and continue to further their education through additional coursework, in-service trainings, and conferences.

Myles Tonnacliff, Ph.D., LP—Provider Service Director

Specializes in family psychology, psychological assessment, and parenting in the West Bend and Milwaukee offices.

Dr. Tonnacliff joined WLCFS in 2007.  He began his doctoral work at the
University of Florida in Gainesville and continued at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. His undergraduate work in Clinical Psychology and Counseling was completed at the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Prior to joining Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Service, Dr. Tonnacliff was the Chief Psychologist for the Sheboygan County Outpatient Program.  He is a member of the American Psychological Association and American Association of Christian Counselors. Dr. Tonnacliff is a Licensed Psychologist, specializing in parenting and family psychology issues.

Dr. Tonnacliff says, "I believe that God has blessed every person with their own special talents, but at times, distress can disrupt the ability to see those blessings.  With His assistance, my goal is to help others realize their full potential and God's plan for them, so they can live productive, spiritually fulfilling lives."

Dr. Tonnacliff and his wife, Cathy, are the proud parents of three children and are members of Calvary, Thiensville, WI. 

Brandon Hayes, Ph.D., LP—Clinical Director  (video bio)

Specializes in adult anxiety disorders and psychological assessments in the Milwaukee and West Bend offices.

Dr. Hayes joined WLCFS in 2006. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UW-Milwaukee and completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at UW-Green Bay. Prior to joining Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Service, Dr. Hayes completed an internship at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, specializing in treating clients with addictions and post-traumatic stress disorder.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hayes has also served as an adjunct instructor at UW-Milwaukee and Wisconsin Lutheran College. His research on the factors influencing alcohol consumption among college students has been presented regionally and nationally. He is a member of the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Hayes is a member of Peace, Hartford, WI.

 

Susan Buelow Godec, MSW, LCSW,  (video bio)

Specializes in depression, anxiety/panic disorders, and marital counseling in the Oak Creek and Milwaukee offices.

Susan joined WLCFS in 1991.  She received her BA in Social Welfare from UW-Milwaukee and her MSW from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  Susan is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.  

She and her husband, Donald, have five grown children and are members of Star of Bethlehem, New Berlin, WI. 


Sheryl Cowling, MSW, LCSW, DCC, BCPCC, BCETS (video bio)

Specializes in children, trauma, and multicultural counseling
in the Milwaukee office.


Sheryl joined WLCFS in 2006.  She received her BS in Human Development from UW-Green Bay and her MSW from UW-Milwaukee. Prior to joining WLCFS, Sheryl provided in-patient and partial hospitalization counseling services at St. Luke's Hospital in Racine, WI.  She also worked at the Medical College of Wisconsin, providing out-patient counseling to children and refugees.

Sheryl says, "I use a strength-based, systemic approach in addition to God's Word to help clients find greater peace, well-being, and a stronger faith."

Sheryl and her husband, Kurt, are members of St. John's, Wauwatosa, WI.

 

Kathy Jasman, MSE, LPC

Specializes in grief and trauma resolution in the Appleton office.

Kathy joined WLCFS in 1986. She received her BS in Medical Technology from UW-Oshkosh and her MSE in Community Counseling also from UW-Oshkosh.  Kathy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds a certificate as an Advanced Bereavement Facilitator from the American Academy of Bereavement.  She is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Kathy says, "I believe in providing a Christ-centered gospel orientation with my clients." 

Kathy is a member of Martin Luther, Neenah, WI.


  Elsa Manthey, MS, LPC, SAC, BCPCC (video bio)

Specializes in alcohol and drug recovery, children with learning challenges, and parenting and family issues in the Appleton office.

Elsa joined WLCFS in 1995.  She received her BS in Education from Dr. Martin Luther College, New Ulm, MN, and her MS in Educational Psychology/Community Counseling from UW-Milwaukee.  Prior to joining WLCFS, Elsa taught for 32 years in WELS schools with a special emphasis on music and teaching children with learning disabilities. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor. Elsa also holds a certificate as a Substance Abuse Counselor.

Elsa says, "Christ has called all believers to minister to those in need. Helping people understand the various life challenges in the light of God's Word and using various cognitive-behavioral approaches to problems is something I find interesting and fulfilling."

Elsa is a member of St. Luke, Little Chute, WI.

 

Jodie Martens, MSW, LCSW (video bio)

Specializes in family and parenting issues, child development, and foster care/adoption issues in the West Bend office.

Jodie joined WLCFS in 2007.  She received her BS in Social Welfare from UW-Whitewater, and her MS in Social Work from UW-Milwaukee.  Prior to joining WLCFS, Jodie worked as a staff therapist at Calvary Academy, Milwaukee, providing individual and group therapy to students and their families.  She also facilitated a number of trainings for Calvary staff.  Jodie also has worked at Children's Service Society as a Child and Family Therapist.

Jodie says, "Being and instrument the Lord uses to bring healing to His children is a wonderful experience.  It is amazing to see families and individuals change as God gives them strength as we work together, utilizing an eclectic blend of therapeutic strategies and His Word to guide us.”

Jodie and her family are members of Our Savior, Grafton, WI.

 

Dan Nommensen, LPC, NCC, DCC, BCPCC,CEAP,
Program Operations Director (video bio)

Specializes in working with WELS called workers in the Milwaukee office.

Dan Nommensen joined WLCFS in 1999.  He received his BA from Wisconsin Lutheran College and his MA in Counseling Psychology from Trinity International University. Dan has seen clients through Christian Family Counseling and has been involved in developing and presenting numerous educational presentations/programs through Christian Leadership Training.

He is currently the Program Operations Director for Christian Family Counseling and Christian Leadership Training. Dan is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  He is a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Distance Credentialed Counselor, and a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor.  He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Employee Assistance Professionals Association, and the International Society of Mental Health Online.

Dan and his family are members of Salem (107th Street), Milwaukee, WI.

 

Marc Scherschel, MA, LPC (video bio)


Specializes in child and adolescent behavioral disorders and parenting and family issues in the Appleton office.

Marc joined WLCFS in 2007.  He received his BA in Psychology from Wisconsin Lutheran College, Milwaukee, WI and his MA in Community Counseling from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. 

Prior to joining WLCFS, Marc worked for a number of day treatment and residential facilities that treated at-risk youth and those suffering from behavioral and self-esteem issues. He has facilitated a number of therapy groups focused on anger management, social skills, and communication skills. 

Marc and his family are members of Eternal Love, Appleton, WI.
