Can I afford retirement living?

We encourage prospective residents to look at the cost of their current living situation and compare it to the cost of residing in our community. Our residents pay a monthly fee that covers the cost of rent, maintenance, activities, and the daily evening meal. The only bills our residents incur are for electricity, phone, and if they choose to have cable television. Having moved from a house, many of our residents find it less expensive to live at Luther Haven. Costs such as property taxes, water and sewer, trash, and upkeep of a home and yard are eliminated by moving into a retirement community.

What is a good age to move in?

At Luther Haven, we welcome all seniors aged 62 and better. After living at Luther Haven, many of our residents state that they wish they had moved in sooner. Therefore, we encourage you to move when you are still able to join in the variety of activities that are offered. Many of our residents have found it reassuring to make the move prior to any health issues. In addition, couples have said that moving into a retirement community together gives them peace of mind, knowing their spouse will be well taken care of should something happen.

What do I need to know before I move into a retirement community?

After choosing the retirement community that best serves your needs, talk with a representative to discuss which payment plan would best serve you. Many residents also use a financial planner to plan for future expenses. Luther Haven, like many other retirement communities, can refer you to other businesses that specialize in senior services. Lists of dependable, experienced real estate agents and moving companies are available to help the move go smoothly for new residents.

Can I keep my car?

Many Luther Haven residents still enjoy driving to work, driving to social events, and running errands. We have ample room in our garages for our residents’ cars. However, when the time comes that our residents are no longer able to drive, Luther Haven offers transportation services for every need. Our private bus takes residents to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, restaurants, banks, and concerts.

Can my family visit me?

Having family and friends visit your new home is vital in making a successful transition to Luther Haven. Family and friends are always welcome to stay overnight in your apartment and to join us for any of our activities. Invite them to dinner for one of our fabulous evening meals. We also have six guest rooms available for visitors who wish to have their own space when they stay at Luther Haven.

If my health declines, can I receive other services?

Luther Haven is one member of a seamless continuum of care that provides seniors with housing and health services. At times, Luther Haven residents need assistance with the daily activities of life. When this occurs, we are able to provide our residents with extra care, such as medication assistance, laundry, housekeeping, bathing, and other services, all of which can be done right in their own apartment. When the needs of our residents become more acute, they are able to transition to Wisconsin Lutheran Living Center located next door to Luther Haven. This assisted living center provides a higher level of care for its residents in a secure environment. If greater needs should arise, Wisconsin Lutheran Care Center is ready to provide the highest level of skilled nursing assistance and rehabilitation services. Regardless of which facility you are at, all of our staff members work together to provide our residents with consistent and compassionate quality care.
